This primer explains schools’ obligations to prevent and remedy discrimination on race, color, and national origin under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The primer describes the origins of Title VI and explains how Title VI applies to public and private schools receiving federal funding, the types of prohibited discrimination, and the enforcement process.
